I chose  the Toyota Tacoma for several reasons.  One is the reliability and toughness of this truck.  When you take care of regular maintenance on these trucks, they will go and go forever and will take a pounding that would make other trucks crumple and die.  They are also very stylish.  Everyone likes their tough but still classy look.  Another reason is weight and size.  I did not want a full size truck due to space limitations on many RV sites.  Also, I needed the Roadtrek to be able to pull the truck in case we wanted both vehicles available on a trip without Erika having to drive too.  The Roadtrek handles pulling the Tacoma very well.  We use a Blue Ox Apollo Braking System  and a Blue Ox Aventa II tow bar to help keep things safe when towing the Tacoma.

All of our recreational equipment fits nicely in the bed of the truck underneath the Snug-Top cap.  That way all of our stuff is already packed to go whenever we decide to head out into the wilderness.  I wanted the equipment to be separated from the main passenger compartment so we did not want a normal SUV.  We chose the Crew Cab (4 door) model Tacoma so that we could take friends (up to 3 more) along with us when going out on the town.  There is a surprising amount of headroom and legroom in the back seats unlike other same size class trucks.

I bought the truck used from a Toyota Dealership in Santa Barbara.  It was a Toyota Certified Vehicle and we got a very good price on it.  Several mechanic friends of ours have looked at it and commented on the extremely good shape that it is in.  For a little more money, we opted for the Toyota Extended Bumper to Bumper warranty and now she is covered fully until 100,000 miles.  So far I have been extremely delighted with the truck.  Erika loves the truck as it was bought for her to use in place of her 1992 Mazda Miata.  I wanted her to drive a vehicle that is safer than the Miata, especially with today's distracted cell phone using drivers.
