Jerry is an amateur
videographer who likes to create projects of a very personal nature. His
search for the deeper meaning of life comes out in his creations. Whether
the subject is about his extreme reverence for nature, our interaction with
other people around us or even an appreciation for the wackier things in life,
his videos teach us that life is about loving, laughing, and experiencing
everything we can. Until now, very few people have seen his videos.
Most were made without the thought of publicly displaying them. A select
few are presented here with a short description by Jerry telling the inspiration
that resulted in his video.
JNFJ is about one beautiful spring and summer spent at the Jackson National Fish Hatchery at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We volunteered there from May through September. We helped the full time staff care for the fish, give tours to thousands of people who came to visit, and maintain the hatchery facility. Because the main building was closed to the public due to earthquake damage, there was not enough interesting things for the visitors to see. I decided to make a short film that takes the people behind the scenes to see what we do. The film takes the visitor through a one year time span in just over 3 minutes. It starts with the spawning season where we harvest and fertilize the fish eggs and ends with the releasing (stocking) of the fish into the wild. This film has been greeted with rousing enthusiasm from the folks who see it before every tour we give. Laughter and excited chatter is common during the fish pumping scenes where we put the fish into the truck. At the end, we sometimes get spontaneous applause and generous compliments for what has been created. I think that this video might be a work in progress as I acquire even more interesting and spectacular footage during our next visit to JNFH. The Presence Of God is a film centered around my early morning kayak excursions at Patten Pond in Ellsworth, ME. Paddling on the lake became an extremely magical time and became quite a religious experience for me. With the mist all around me, I was transported away from all the rest of the world. I became mesmerized by the hypnotic sights, sounds, and smells. I glided silently across the glassy smooth water barely making a ripple on the surface. I wound my way around majestic stands of reeds, across peaceful, tranquil lily pad fields, and among the rocks that jutted above the surface of the water. I gazed at the dancing wisps of mist rising from the surface of the water and then peered deeply into the crystal clear depths. How could I not be dramatically impacted by the staggering beauty of this place and time? How could my soul not be recharged and my spirit revitalized? How could my heart not be healed? How could I not have faith? How could I not feel the presence of God?
Always is a film about a young family that love and laugh and dance their way through life together. It is in direct contrast to the bombardment that we face daily by the media indicating that the American family is dead or consists of family members who detest each other's presence.
