Erika's First Visit To Acadia National Park

Today was Erika's first time to visit Acadia National Park.  In the little I showed her, she was blown away from the beauty of this place.  Erika also loved the drive through tour of Bar Harbor, ME.  She is looking forward to exploring Bar Harbor completely.

It was a special time for the both of us to see Acadia National Park.  For Erika, the discovery of a new place.  For me, a revisit with an "old friend".  Acadia has a beauty about it that is overwhelming.  Acadia is a place that can transform and change in it's appearance from day to day.  Seeing the exact same spot can be a totally different experience depending on the time of day, status of the ocean's tide, time of year, and particularly the weather conditions.  I have seen some jaw dropping scenes caused by weather phenomena that can occur here.  Because of the extreme weather changes of this region, we will be certain to see some awesome sights.

I wanted Erika to get an quick overview of what Acadia has in store for us.  We visited the visitor center in order to stock up on brochures, guides, and maps that we will need for our adventures.  We asked numerous questions of the rangers about hiking, biking, and kayaking the area.  Afterward, we headed out onto the loop that circles the park.

Our first stop was Cadillac Mountain overlook.  This beautiful overlook allowed us to see every inch of the park from a birds eye view.  The sight of fishing vessels in the bay heading out to and coming back from the sea was truly a sight to behold.  The skies were clear enabling us to see the various islands in the bay and area lakes we plan to explore by kayak and by Porta-Bote.  Those should be excellent adventures.  Afterward, we continued our slow drive around the loop stopping off at places such as Sand Beach and Thunder Hole.  Because of tidal conditions, Erika did not get to see the most exciting aspects of these places.  We will be back to Thunder Hole when the conditions are right for her to see this magnificent natural wonder.  We will be back to see everything this park has to offer.  This place is our new home.

Erika and I stopped to see The Great Maine Lumberjack Show at Trenton, ME.  This is a nightly show put on for the tourists to see and enjoy this lost occupation.  The show concentrated on showing us the competitions that the lumberjacks and, yes, lumberjills would participate in to show their skills and for bragging rights.  The various competitions included sawing and chopping with axes/saws/chainsaws, axe throwing, tree speed climbing, log rolling/jousting amongst others.  The lumberjacks/lumberjill competitions were light hearted yet serious at the same time.  Imagine the fear of the lumberjacks that the one women competitor could beat them at several of the events and bruise their manly egos in front of all of us in the crowd.  I would recommend this show to anyone who is in the area.  It is inexpensive and it is a great show.  Kids of all ages will love it.

It was a wonderful night to watch the show outdoors while the sun set.  The scent of the wood and the outdoors filled you with a sense of contentment and happiness.  Time and time again Erika and I are reminded that we are truly living a dream life where special things like this show come into our lives.  We are really blessed to have the opportunity to experience these things.  We are so very blessed to be able to appreciate even the smallest things as much as we do.
