Erika and I moved from
Searsport to Ellsworth, ME so that we could be much closer to Acadia
National Park and Bar Harbor, ME. We will be concentrating almost entirely
on these two places for the next month and a half. We will be getting very
intimately in tune with everything that is Acadia National Park. Our RV
site at Patten Pond RV Park is phenomenal! It is very private and affords
us an unobstructed view of the lake and surrounding woods. The peace and
quiet here is very exciting to us.
Our travels to this place, although a short distance
from Searsport,
was
interesting. We drove across the Waldo Hancock Expansion Bridge which took
us across the Penobscot River into Bucksport, ME. The last time I was here
(two years ago) the bridge was under major refurbishment. Seems the old
bridge had corroded dramatically to the point that it was getting dangerous to
cross. The bridge has now been patched enough to allow the construction of
a new bridge across the river. The two are side by side. Once the
new bridge is completed, the old bridge will be disassembled, probably with much
fanfare from the local residents. It was interesting to drive the
motorcoach across the old bridge. There was the feeling of a lot of give
in the structure as I drove across. Fortunately, there was little oncoming
traffic to squeeze by along the way. On the other side was a scale built
into the road which flashed my weight on a large electronic sign. I had no
idea the rig weighed that much.
We are
under the weight limit for the rig but our rig is definitely a monster among
RV's weight wise.
We will not waste much time getting to Acadia and Bar
Harbor. However, we will wait until the Labor Day weekend is over before
we get too involved with these places. It is a mad house during this very
busy weekend. We will concentrate during the long weekend on catching up
on things that need to be done. Our travels and activities have resulted
in us getting a little behind.
